Social Work Team Leader
Our Values
In line with our One Coventry Values, we want to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce. A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. We particularly welcome applicants from minority ethnic, LGBT+, disabled and neurodiverse communities to make a real difference to our residents so that equity and respect remains at the heart of everything we do.
Our Values are:
- Open and fair: We are fair, open, and transparent.
- Nurture and develop: We help and encourage everyone to be their best and do their best.
- Engage and empower: We talk and listen to others, working together as one.
- Create and innovate: We embrace new ways of working to continuously improve.
- Own and be accountable: We work together to deliver the best services for our residents.
- Value and respect: We put diversity and inclusion at the heart of all we do.

We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, is accepting of all and is free from discrimination and bias.
We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this.
In a simple sense all our work, at whatever level should continue to support the strategy of: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people’.
What is the job role?
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Leader to support a team in delivering responsive, personalised and outcome-focused services for people and their carers.
We currently have opportunities in both Learning Disabilities – and Mental Health services. Whilst the Learning Disabilities or the mental health team will be your host team and where you will be working predominantly, we do encourage flexibility across the service to meet the needs of our residents, and opportunities may arise within other service areas and you may have the opportunity to work across disciplines. This approach not only supports service delivery but also plays an important role in developing our staff, giving you the chance to broaden your skills, experience different areas of practice, and grow within the service.
In this role, you will provide operational leadership, ensuring high-quality service delivery that meets both national standards and local priorities. You will oversee performance management, manage delegated budgets, support effective safeguarding practices, and work collaboratively with partner organisations to achieve positive outcomes for service users.
You will play a key role in staff management and development, including recruitment, supervision, performance management, and fostering a positive and supportive team culture. The successful candidate will also contribute to service improvement, risk management, and the implementation of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills, sound decision-making abilities, and a passion for delivering high-quality support services.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a confident and compassionate leader who has experience managing teams within a health, social care, or support service environment.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be able to demonstrate skills in leading and motivating teams to deliver high-quality services
- Have skills and knowledge in contributing to the oversight of managing performance, financial resources and general operational responsibilities
- Be able to demonstrate skill, knowledge and experience of safeguarding practices, applying the relevant legislation and codes of practice
- Be able to build effective partnerships with internal teams and external organisations
- Have excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Be experienced in handling complex situations, including complaints, disciplinary matters, and risk management
- Be committed to promoting positive outcomes for individuals, carers, and communities
- Be able to support, coach, and develop staff to achieve their full potential
You will be proactive, resilient, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a person-centred approach to service delivery.
We are actively recruiting to vacancies in both these areas and welcome applications from AMHP qualified workers for the available roles in Mental Health.
Within our team men and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are currently under-represented across our middle management, as a result we would like to encourage men and people from minority ethnic backgrounds to apply for this post. This does not prevent any other applicants with a protected characteristic or a non-protected characteristic from applying.
