Qualified Teacher – Outdoor Learning Lead

Sherbourne Fields is an outstanding all age special school for pupils with a broad spectrum of need including physical disabilities, medical conditions and learning needs. The school’s population is wide ranging and diverse, with 262 pupils from a rich mix of social and cultural backgrounds.

What is the job role?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced qualified teacher to lead and develop our outdoor learning provision across the school.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about experiential learning, who can inspire both pupils and staff through meaningful outdoor experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, and deliver a high-quality outdoor learning curriculum tailored to pupils with additional needs
  • Develop and embed outdoor learning across the whole school
  • Create safe, engaging, and inclusive outdoor environments
  • Support staff with training and ideas for outdoor-based learning
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of outdoor learning on pupil progress and wellbeing

Ensure all activities meet safeguarding, risk assessment, and health & safety requirements

Who are we looking for?

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience working in a special school or with pupils with additional needs
  • A strong passion for outdoor education and holistic learning
  • Knowledge of forest school, bush craft, or outdoor curriculum approaches (desirable)
  • Ability to adapt learning to meet diverse and complex needs
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational skills

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS, all relevant safeguarding and pre-employment clearances, and the receipt of two satisfactory references.
