About the team we are recruiting to

Therapy Services is part of Adult Social Care.  We are a team of Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants who work with Coventry residents to enhance their safety and independence at home.  This supports the choice, control and well-being of them and their carers.  Our interventions include rehabilitation, and provision of aids / adaptations.  we also liaise with other professionals or third-sector services.  The team is based at The Opal Assessment and Demonstration centre, although assessments are usually undertaken in the client's home.

What is the job role?

Occupational Therapy Assistant, Adult Services, Coventry City Council, 37 hours per week

Most of the OTA role involves visiting customers in their own homes to address difficulties that they are experiencing.  This often pertains to bathing, accessing the property or kitchen tasks.  Once the difficulties have been identified, the OTA works with the customer to overcome these, by looking at different ways of doing the task or providing alterations to the environment.  These assessments need to be carefully documented on the computer database.

The remainder of the role includes training, supporting team members and students, and engaging in Service developments.

Who are we looking for?

Coventry City Council are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and reliable individuals to work within our Therapy Team supporting Occupational Therapists.

We want a team member who can work as part of a team and work independently- managing and prioritising their own time and workload. You must have good communication skills and have basic computer literacy.

Your skills will include:

  • Effective communication – in person, written and over the telephone.
  • Conducting assessments in a variety of ways to identity the  the customer’s strengths and how they can home to identify their strengths and how they can use these strengths to improve / maintain safety and independence in their chosen home environment.
  • Providing instruction to clients and their carers to enable them to achieve maximum functional independence.
  • Working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Organising an allocated workload, planning and prioritising work to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Developing effective working relationships with customers, colleagues and other agencies.
  • Maintaining accurate case records on the computer database.
