Maternity Cover - Class Teacher
About the team we are recruiting to
Tiverton School is a small, welcoming primary special school with 136 pupils on roll, all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Our pupils come from across Coventry and are truly at the heart of everything we do.
We were graded ‘Good’ in our most recent OFSTED inspection, reflecting the high-quality provision and care we offer.
Our school benefits from a large, dedicated team of staff who are committed to our shared vision:
“Passionate about celebrating learning, enjoyment and achievement for all.”
The Headteacher and Governors fully recognise and value the vital contribution made by every member of staff and are committed to supporting wellbeing, professional growth, and collaborative working across the school.
What is the job role?
We are seeking dedicated, resilient teachers to join our happy and thriving school community on a Maternity Leave cover basis. This opportunity is ideal for experienced practitioners or teachers who are keen to develop their understanding of our specialist Pathways for additional needs and models of provision.
We are looking for passionate professionals with experience in SEND, or those with a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our pupils. Our pupils have severe and complex needs, including ASD, sensory processing difficulties, and associated behaviours that challenge.
The majority of our pupils experience significant social interaction and communication difficulties. Teaching and learning take place in small groups, with highly structured routines tailored to each child. Our approach incorporates signs, symbols, visual supports, sensory diets, movement breaks, and personalised behaviour support strategies.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking creative and reflective teachers who:
Think innovatively about pupils’ learning and progress
Work collaboratively as part of a dynamic and supportive class team
Bring a positive, solution-focused approach to their practice
In return, we offer a comprehensive CPD and training programme, including bespoke SEND-focused development and nationally recognised qualifications. With clear progression pathways and opportunities for career advancement, you will be fully supported to grow, develop, and thrive in your role.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS.
Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) for an additional pre employment check with effect 1 Sept 22, please note, an online search may form part of this recruitment process.
