The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.
We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.
We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.
Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas:
- Nursery Workers
- Teaching Assistants
- Leadership/Management; and
- Customer Care.
We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop.
Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?
Full-Time Permanent Facilitator – 16–24 Study Programme
Coventry Adult Education Service
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Facilitator to join our 16–24 Study Programme provision at Coventry Adult Education. This is a full-time, permanent position based at Adult Education, Southfields Old School, supporting the delivery and facilitating face-to-face learning to small groups.
The role will involve working closely with tutors to support the delivery and facilitate engaging learning experiences, including targeted small group sessions identified as beneficial to learners. The Study Programme supports young people with a range of needs, including those with and without an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), so experience supporting young people with additional needs is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside tutors and the Delivery Manager to support the delivery and facilitate engaging sessions for our learners.
- Support programmes that develop key life skills, improve health and well-being, and enable learners to participate in community life, leading to social integration, volunteering opportunities, and paid employment.
- Assist with planning sessions, preparing resources, and supporting learners during activities.
- Deliver and facilitate a range of provision, including:
Confidence-building sessions
Personal development
Employability and volunteering guidance
- Work in community venues and in partnership with local organisations.
- Support learners during off-site activities and community-based learning.
- Support both one-off workshops and longer-term programmes.
About You
Overall, the role suits someone who is enthusiastic, supportive, and passionate about community education and enabling learners to reach their potential. Experience of working with young people in education, training, or support settings is desirable, particularly within inclusive learning environments.
Additional Requirements
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a passionate, adaptable, and committed team player with experience in educational or community settings to help deliver engaging activities and develop stimulating resources for learners on the 16–24 Study Programme. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the barriers young people may face in education and a genuine commitment to supporting learners to overcome these challenges.
You will have experience working with young people aged 16–24 or be willing to develop your understanding of the Study Programme curriculum. You should be confident in facilitating learning sessions, preparing appropriate resources, and supporting individual learner needs to enable progress. You will also have experience in handling data and creating proformas.
Strong communication and organisational skills are required, along with a willingness to engage in ongoing professional development. You must be committed to promoting equality, diversity, and safeguarding in all aspects of your work. Relevant subject qualifications, along with Level 2 English and maths, are essential.
