Coventry City Council’s Organisational Development (OD) Service sits within Human Resources (HR) and focuses on delivering organisational transformation and cultural change through a range of organisational interventions.  Alongside our HR colleagues we work to ensure that the development and redesign of our people management policies, practices and strategies are in line with the changing organisational environment and that they enable the delivery of outcomes associated with transformation and change. 

The team get the chance to shape the culture and the future of the Council which includes being heavily involved in our One Coventry approach and striving to ensure that all employees are supported throughout the employee lifecycle.  A few examples of interventions that the OD team are involved in include:

The Council’s Apprenticeship programme also sits with the OD service. 

We are transforming how we do things at Coventry City Council.  Our People Plan 2020 – 2022 sets out our ambitions as a broader HR Service that will inspire others, drive and secure opportunities to improve and transform the services we offer to the citizens of Coventry. 

What is the job role?

Would you like to gain a HR Qualification and a wide variety of experience working in our People & Culture team?

As an apprentice, you will provide project and administrative support to the Workforce D&I Lead, supporting the delivery of the Council’s Workforce D&I Strategy and People Plan.

A typical week will involve:

  • Supporting the Workforce Diversity & Inclusion Lead with projects like developing office accessibility guides and organising employee storytelling content.
  • Researching, collating and updating best practise D&I resources for our online resource library.
  • Creating and sharing content promoting the Council’s D&I activities via the intranet, viva engage community, staff app and Council social media.
  • Acting as a point of contact for Workforce D&I queries, monitoring a dedicated inbox and responding to enquiries
  • Offering support to our seven employee networks

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who:

•    Is passionate about diversity and inclusion.
•    Is confident, hardworking and willing to take on new tasks.
•    Has basic IT skills, including the ability to collate and present information.
•    Has organisational skills and the ability to work to schedules and deadlines.
•    Is a self-starter, able to use their initiative to identify problems and propose solutions.
•    Has the ability to promote our D&I activities and related events using social media.

The application and selection process for candidates is as follows:

Stage 1 - Wednesday 7th February 2024 - Pre-interview*  

Stage 2 - Wednesday 14th February 2024 - Final interview. 

*The pre-interview is a short session to give you further details of the apprenticeship role and to help you understand what to expect from and how to prepare for the final interview.
