About the team we are recruiting to

 

Waste is a busy operational department that provides essential services to the residents of Coventry, Nuneaton & Bedworth and Commercial.  We conduct over 210,000 collections a week on an alternate weekly collection system in Coventry alone, collection domestic waste .  In order to conduct the services we provide we have a large number of crews across all services and use various tipping locations.

What is the job role?

Due to high demand and high volume of application forms, this role is closing Thursday 24 June 2021.

We have a number of permanent and 6 month - fixed term contracts for Refuse Collectors to join our team and provide an effective, efficient and timely Waste provision across our City and service areas. 

Positions will provide services within Domestic Waste, Commercial Waste including Nuneaton and Bedworth Domestic Recycling Collections team. Collections operate throughout Coventry, Nuneaton and Bedworth and the surrounding sub region.

 

Refuse Collectors are key to the smooth running and efficient Waste collection service.

Under the general direction of the Supervising Team Leaders, you will deliver a high quality safe, responsive and customer focused waste service. 

 

You will be responsible for duties connected with the removal of both household and commercial refuse and recycling from a variety of locations and involving a full range of refuse containers, e.g. household bins, plastic sacks, wheeled bins and paladin bins.

Including:

  • Collect all wheeled bins / sacks presented for collection and load onto the vehicle using the appropriate manner. Return all containers to their original point and, where necessary, provide new sacks to premises
  • Ensure the appropriate use of tags / postcards to inform residents of issues that have resulted in collections not being undertaken
  • Undertake appropriate training including equipment, vehicles and Council processes and polices as required.

A key aspect of this role is to ensure you carry out your duties in a safe manner in accordance with the appropriate Safe Systems of Work and a customer friendly approach.

We are looking for individuals who enjoy working as part of a team, in a high profile customer focussed environment.

Successful candidates need to:

- be physically fit (to be able to walk up to and in excess of 12 miles per day, in all weathers)

- be able to communicate in professional manner with colleagues and members of the public

- be customer focused and have a can-do attitude

- be flexible and adaptable in your approach

- have an understanding of refuse or recycling collection methods/techniques, is essential 

- a good working knowledge of operational Health & Safety and Safe Systems at Work

In return, we can offer you a 37 hours per week contract (permanent and fixed term).

 

Core operation shift start times are as follows:

  • Domestic - Shifts start at 7am  (Tuesday to Friday)
  • NBBC – Shifts start 6.30am (Monday to Friday)
  • Commercial – Shifts start 6am  (Monday – Friday)

Occasional weekend and bank holiday work may be available.
