The Council’s ‘Business Investment and Culture’ service has a remit for economic development, inward investment, sustainability, culture, sport, tourism and events. It is a lively group of largely specialist officers with responsibility for strategy, funding and project delivery across its sections. It has recently expanded significantly, taking on new staff to develop and deliver activities stimulated by the title of UK City of Culture in 2021 and being a host city of the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

The Destination team we are recruiting into is responsible for a range of functions, including:

  • Promotion of leisure and business tourism across diverse marketing channels
  • Operation of the Coventry and Warwickshire Convention Bureau
  • Provision of Coventry’s Visitor Information services
  • Working in partnership with the city’s visitor economy businesses
  • Delivery of Coventry’s Tourism Strategy

What is the job role?

You will have responsibility to represent and promote Coventry in a positive way, supporting the Visitor Information Team Leaders with day-to-day enquiries and duties in a key frontline customer service environment.

Duties will include (although is not an exhausted list):

  • Welcome visitors to the Visitor Information Centre and endeavour to provide and help with the information they require
  • Ensure that the Visitor Information displays are relevant and kept tidy
  • Handle personal, telephone and web based enquires either directly or by referral elsewhere if appropriate
  • Researching, acquiring and maintaining up to date information on local amenities, facilities and events
  • Provide a seamless visitor experience
  • Handing payments and cashing up at the end of the day
  • Produce weekly statistics for the Visitor Information Team Leaders regarding visitor numbers, query types and footfall
  • Validate GoCV cards for visitors that have them, assisting those dealing with members of the public.

Who are we looking for?

Have you got a passion for Coventry, the ability to deliver superior customer service and support the city during its exciting year as the UK City of Culture?

We are looking for enthusiastic and hard-working candidates to support our brand-new visitor information facilities by providing a friendly welcome and insight into the city of Coventry.

This role offers a unique chance to promote Coventry during an extremely significant time and in return, we can offer you a part time, 12-month, fixed term contract in an exciting and fast-paced environment, providing you with the platform to be part of something big.

This is an opportunity not to be missed!

Varied and flexible part-time working patterns are available – some including weekends and Bank Holidays.

While we are open to giving people flexibility to choose their hours (up to a maximum of 25), we must have each successful candidate working a full day in the Visitor Information Centre, no split shifts are available. Those hours are:

  • 10am – 5pm (Monday – Friday)
