What is the job role?

We are recruiting a part-time Team Leader (Social work or Occupational Therapist Qualified) for our Promoting Independence team leaning disability team (LDPI).

This is a part-time post (26 hours) and you will lead a team of staff who deliver assessments as part of a promoting independence pathway and travel training for adults who live with a learning disability

You would lead a team of social care staff and travel trainers who assess individuals as part of a short-term up to 12 weeks intervention.

This post involves coordinating a Multidisciplinary process consisting of representatives of Outreach services, Occupational Therapy, access to employment coaches, and travel training. 

The LD Promoting Independence service coordinates short-term assessment and promoting independence intervention, tailored to the diverse needs of people who live with a learning disability.

Working with a diverse network of professionals, as a Team Leader you will provide leadership of this service/function.

This is a fabulous time to join us as we continue leading the way in providing opportunities and increasing independence for people with a learning disability.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

Within our team, men and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are currently under-represented across our middle management, as a result, we would like to encourage men and people from minority ethnic backgrounds to apply for this post.  This does not prevent any other applicants with a protected characteristic or a non-protected characteristic from applying.

We are looking for a culturally competent leader who can understand the lived experience of people with a learning disability or learning disability and Autism. You will be compassionate but confident, able to work under pressure and motivate and encourage your team.

You will be committed and passionate about practice, sharing learning and knowledge and developing others. You will have a solid understanding of and be an advocate for the principles of diversity and inclusion in relation to workplace culture and service delivery.

You must be able to lead by example, whilst ensuring that the team you lead ensures that a strength-based and promoting independence approach is applied to people with a learning disability.

You will need to contribute to assessment, and review, and be flexible and adaptable in your approach.
