About the team we are recruiting to

Adult Social Care is part of the People Directorate within Coventry City Council.  We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this.

In a simple sense all our work, at whatever level should continue to support the strategy of: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people’.

Adult Social Care encompasses a wide range of vital services covering;

• Commissioning Team – we commission and work with a number of providers, to ensure that people with care needs have access to a range of good quality support to enable them to live independent and fulfilling lives
• Social Work Services - we work with individuals who have care and support needs, and with their carers be they older or younger adults
• Occupational Therapy and Equipment Services - we aim to enhance people’s ability to live safely and independently in their home
• Internally Provided Services – we provide direct support to people enabling those in most need to live independent and fulfilled lives
• Business Systems and Continuous Improvement - we provide a range of services including Financial Assessments, provider payment processing and Business Systems administration. The Business Systems team provide support to Adult Social Care, Children’s Services and Education Services.

What is the job role?

The Adult Disability Service is looking to recruit to a Team leader on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a developing and motivated team providing assessment and case management for adults with disabilities.

The primary focus of the role is leading a team in the delivery and oversight of assessment of adults with a disability under the Care Act 2014. As part of the management team, you would be responsible for managing a group of staff who deliver strength-based assessments and identifying support with a focus on inclusion and independence.  The role requires skills and knowledge regarding managing social care practitioners who complete Care Act assessments and safeguarding adults activity in relation to adults with a physical or learning disability, awareness of transforming care, and promoting independence agendas and supporting planned transitions for young people.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

You will need to hold a  Social Work Qualification and be registered with SWE (Social Work England) and to have some supervisory experience is preferable.

You would need to be able to work both autonomously and in partnership with health services, partner organisations, to manage a service which assesses individuals adults with a disability, and work to  promoting  independence  You will need to demonstrate clear leadership skills and  will lead a small team of staff to progress and  undertake  casework.

You will have excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to problem-solve, assess, and manage risk, support health and social care colleagues and work to tight deadlines. Creative and solution focused skills are essential. In addition you will be involved in activities that promote continuous professional development and the delivery of high-quality services to users.  

You would be well supported via line management and professional supervision and will work as part of a supportive management team.
