Systems Support and Data Analyst

About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry City Council's HR Digital Transformation Team is a small, busy, vibrant and innovative service responsible for delivering key enabling digital services for the Human Resources service.  Our People Plan 2020-2020 sets out our ambitions as a HR service that will inspire others, drive and secure opportunities to improve and transform the services we offer to the citizens of Coventry.

Our role within this is to lead the development of digital service delivery for HR across the Council and for our external customers. This includes systems and data, and in particular the use of workforce data to enable strategic and operational decision making.  One of our priorities for the year is to design and implement a HR data warehouse.

As well as delivering projects, we undertake a range of system administration activities for a number of HR systems, including e-Learning, Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Wellbeing and our Management Information databases.

If you think digital, HR and local government may be a bit old school, think again.  Innovation is at the heart of everything we do, and as a service we work closely with our corporate ICT & Digital team who are currently working on programmes of activity which include 5G, ChatBots, Process Automation, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. 

What is the job role?

Following internal promotion of the current post-holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems Support & Data Analyst.  The role is essential to support both the development, implementation and maintenance of the HR analytics provision and a number of key HR systems.

The key activities involve anything data and analytics, from developing, testing, reviewing and publishing reports and dashboards, to taking responsibility for project tasks to develop our new HR data warehouse.

Supporting our users during project rollouts is key, and you will be leading briefings, demonstrations and providing one to one support.  You will produce guidance for users both written and by video, and document system support procedures.

There is a range of tasks involved in supporting our live systems, and you will play a part in all aspects, including system administration, file transfer and management and liaising with software providers on upgrades, patches, outages and fault resolution.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who understands what a HR service does and the types of digital systems and technologies used.

You must be an expert in the use of Microsoft Excel to be able to cleanse large data sets and undertake analysis.

An understanding of the basic concepts of databases is important across the range of tasks to be completed.

Your verbal and written communication skills are essential for working with project teams, providing guidance and support to users and liaising with suppliers.

You need to be a good organiser and a team player to deliver a wide range of tasks on time.  Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is key.

You will be keen to develop your career in the areas of systems, analytics and data science.
