About the team we are recruiting to

Adult Social Care is part of the People Directorate within Coventry City Council.  We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this.

In a simple sense all our work, at whatever level should continue to support the strategy of: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people’.

Adult Social Care encompasses a wide range of vital services covering;

  • Commissioning Team – we commission and work with a number of providers, to ensure that people with care needs have access to a range of good quality support to enable them to live independent and fulfilling lives
  • Social Work Services - we work with individuals who have care and support needs, and with their carers be they older or younger adults
  • Occupational Therapy and Equipment Services - we aim to enhance people’s ability to live safely and independently in their home
  • Internally Provided Services – we provide direct support to people enabling those in most need to live independent and fulfilled lives
  • Business Systems and Continuous Improvement - we provide a range of services including Financial Assessments, provider payment processing and Business Systems administration. The Business Systems team provide support to Adult Social Care, Children’s Services and Education Services.

What is the job role?

We are currently looking for warm, enthusiastic, and dedicated support workers to be part of an exciting new project which will see the current Dementia Day care provision develop into a single Dementia Hub for Coventry. The ethos of the service is to enable people to live well with Dementia.

The hub will be providing traditional day services alongside drop in sessions and an outreach service  where you would visit a service user in their own home and carry out activities with them. This could include taking them out into the community or doing activities of their choosing within their home.  

You will promote independence and apply a person-centred approach in a safe, respectful, and dignified manner; giving people choice and control over the services they are using and ensuring the best possible outcomes for individuals within their own home.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

 

Who are we looking for?

A confident and passionate worker who understands how to respond according to the needs of the person and contribute to how the hub might develop in response to the changing demands. A worker who embraces the ethos that people with dementia can live well with dementia.

In further detail, your key duties and responsibilities will be to:

Ensure the rights of people who access our services are always promoted, ensuring that the principles of choice, control, dignity, respect, involvement, and empowerment are maintained.

Ensure that the emotional wellbeing of the people we support is respected in all aspects of service delivery, wherever possible enabling them to assert responsibility for their own lives and obtain and act in accordance with the consent of the person regarding their care and support.

Help in creating opportunities and choices, so that everyone can achieve their desired outcomes and has appropriate control over the decision-making process about the service they may receive.

Promote the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual wellbeing of the people we support including supporting people to access local facilities and opportunities.

Part of the selection process will involve a face-to-face interview and an observation delivering an activity to a small group of service users
