The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need. 

We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.  

We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning.  In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas: 

  • Nursery Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Leadership/Management; and 
  • Customer Care. 

We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop. 

Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?

A lecturer level 1 is required to deliver on the Study Programme for Coventry Adult Education Service.  Delivery will be via face-to-face in a classroom environment with a new group of 10 learners who have Educational Health and Care Plans aged between 16 – 24.

The Tutor will be Delivering a range of qualifications, up to 3 full days delivering a range of sessions which could include Functional Skills in Maths and English, Entry level 3 Customer Service, Level 1 Employability, Catering and Hospitality, ESOL, and a non-qualification Personal Growth Development Programme. 

Tutors can discuss at interviews the above sessions that need to be taught and any preferences of subjects they can teach, it doesn't have to be all the above. 

We have 2  fixed-term posts up to 31 July 2024

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for 2 enthusiastic Lecturer level 1 to join our Study Programme team. In consultation with the Study Programme Manager and subject tutors, you will deliver sessions to individuals or small groups of young people with a range of special educational needs.

You will support learners with additional learning needs enabling them to participate as fully as possible in the Study Programme.

You will be responsible for maintaining learner records and individual learning plans, as directed by the Study Programme Manager. You will support young people who experience severe anxiety in returning to education.

You will work as part of a dynamic team to ensure that learners are supported in addressing their educational and pastoral issues, liaising with other colleagues and agencies as appropriate.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant experience of working as a tutor and supporting young people.
  • A Functional Skills/GCSE maths and English qualification at Grade C/4 or equivalent.
  • A relevant teaching qualification at level four minimum  
  • Relevant Employability and Customer Service Knowledge
