About the team we are recruiting to

The Streetpride Service is Coventry City Councils Street Cleansing and Grounds Maintenance Service.  It has a responsibility and statutory duty to keep the City Clean, Green and attractive for all.

Keeping the City clean and green is a huge challenge and not one we can do on our own.  The service is delivered by a flexible locally committed workforce who work well with the different residents, communities and partners ensuring a One Coventry approach by enabling people to do more for themselves.

The service operates out of 2 strategically based sites in the North and the South of the City and provides a cleansing service 7 days per week for 52 weeks of the year.

We currently clean 10’000 miles or road network each year and empty over 3’000 street litter bins each week.

The service is also responsible for delivering the Grounds Maintenance works across all our Parks and Open Spaces including our 5 Green Flag Parks and cuts approximately 6 million square metres of grass every 20 working days.  That is the equivalent of cutting one thousand football pitches.

Joining the Streetpride & Greenspace team as part of the City of Culture Operations, we are a hard-working team responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and improvement of streets, parks and open spaces by carrying out a range of associated street cleansing and grounds maintenance activities.

 

Working as part of a wider team and supporting the Programme Manager on the In-year Programme of Street Cleansing/Grounds/ Traffic Management and other associated works for the City of Culture Events, we require an Operational Team Leader for a fixed term contract for 9 months, to supervise designated teams in the delivery of the in-depth cleansing and grounds maintenance programme in readiness for City of Culture 2021. 

As Operational Team Leader for the City of Culture you will be responsible for supervising the delivery of the clean-up and readiness of our city, deploy and supervise crews, resolve any operational issues and ensure work schedules are completed and priorities are met on a daily basis.

 

You will be responsible for:

 

·        the day to day activity to ensure service standards are met by undertaking daily inspections, assessing achievement and performance  

·        deployment and use of vehicles plant and equipment

·        ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees in the execution of their duties, by developing safe methods of work, ensuring unnecessary risks are minimised and followed by the crews. 

·        undertaking a range of associated grounds maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, hedge and shrub bed maintenance as required. 

undertaking a range of associated street cleansing tasks such as Pavement Sweeping, Bin Emptying and litter picking as required  

Who are we looking for?

You will need to be able to engage and work with colleagues from a range of backgrounds to ensure delivery of a programme of work across a diverse service area where you will champion staff, colleagues and residents to promote Coventry as a place that is proud to attract business, visitors and future development.

 

You will be a good communicator across all levels with the ability to build and maintain critical working relationships and able to deal with and assist in the resolution of customer complaints and service enquiries professionally and responsively.

 

A good and thorough understanding and experience of cleansing and grounds services and hands on experience of managing a frontline operational service is key to the success of this role.

 

We are looking for someone who can work under pressure, think on their feet and has good organisational and interpersonal skills. 

You will be required to travel across the city on a regular and daily basis to check, monitor and inspect service areas and supervision of events (in some cases to rural parts of the city that are not accessible via public transport), therefore, you will need to hold a full UK driving licence.

This is a full time, fixed term contract for 9 months.  The standard working week for this role is Wednesday – Sunday inclusive.  This role will attract weekend working enhancements.
