Children’s Services provides a wide range of statutory and non-statutory duties, from Early Help Services, through to children who are looked after, are leaving care or adopted.  

The service reflects and responds to the changing needs of children and their families.  It works to enable a reflective and flexible approach, with a strong Early Help offer and a real focus on Relationship Based Practice and Signs of Safety, which focuses on strengthening and keeping families together.

What is the job role?

Coventry City Council Childrens Services is a service that values its employees and had a great understanding of the needs of our communities, and a shared ambition to strengthen its offer to children and families. We want to deliver services that children and families will benefit from; this role will play a huge part in making this happen.

Following the promotion of the current post-holder, we are looking for an Assistant Director to join us as the Strategic Lead for Help and Protection.

Within this senior role you will have delegated authority from the Director of Children’s Services for the management of functional areas across our Help and Protection system.

This includes management and delivery of Coventry City Council Children’s Services Early Help offer, including hubs, youth Work, Troubled families, Family Drugs and Alcohol Court (FDAC), CSE and Missing young peoples services, Youth Offending Service, Coventry City Councils children’s protection services, including Child in Need teams, Child Protection Social work teams responsive services, including the MASH and the Emergency Duty Team.

You will have responsibility for improving quality and outcomes and for ensuring performance and quality is maintained across Help and Protection Services.

You will operate as the strategic safeguarding lead, supporting and enabling strategic partnership working with other agencies, including through the Safeguarding Partnership, in relation to developing and improving early help outcomes and delivering effective safeguarding joint working reducing the incidence and effect of harm.

You will develop collaborative arrangements with Police, education and health services to achieve improvements in outcomes to maximise and achieve children and young people, achievement, health and life chances through the Children and young people plan. Working within the initiatives to better align or connect services and community organisations to support children, young people, parents and carers to help themselves.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
