Stakeholder Engagement Manager

The Economic Development Service (EDS) has an instrumental role in the delivery of the Council’s ambitions and in particular the vision to promote the growth of a sustainable Coventry economy.   

The department also delivers objectives set by central Government, the Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) and West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).  

To achieve our ambition of delivering sustainable growth through creating opportunities, the teams within EDS carry out a number of key activities including:  

  • Monitoring and shaping policy 

  • Identifying and delivering investment opportunities and projects 

  • Delivering an inward investment and skills and growth function 

  • Providing a business support and investment programme; and  

  • Managing external funding programmes.  

The benefits of these services aim to meet the needs of local businesses and industry across all sectors, international businesses seeking to invest and local residents through jobs and growth.    

The team has a strong track record of success including:  

  • Support in the delivery of the successful City of Culture 2021 bid 

  • Securing funding for and providing project delivery of the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) 

  • Attracting major investors to the City through the promotion of opportunities to a national and global audience; and  

  • Awarding grants to local SMEs to help them to grow and create jobs 

As a department we do not want to stop here but have ambitions to continue to develop the service. We are seeking driven individuals to support us in these aspirations. 

What is the job role?

This position will play a key role in a local energy partnership project, leading delivery of the project’s stakeholder engagement work package. The project is funded by Innovate UK and involves partners from WMCA, University of Warwick and WPD amongst others.

The post holder will work closely with the wider project team and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project on behalf of Coventry City Council and will be responsible for linking this stakeholder engagement work with activity such as Climate Change Strategy planning.

You will be expected to:

  • create, implement, manage, monitor and control stakeholder engagement activity 
  • build working relationships with project partners and other key stakeholders
  • provide leadership, influence and advise senior managers within CCC and elected officials
  • provide updates on the progress of the project and related programmes to such stakeholders 
  • have responsibility for budgets of up to £50,000 towards project activity.

 

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the principles, methodologies and techniques which underpin successful participation and stakeholder engagement activities. A good understanding of the local government role in partnership engagement activities at a local/regional level. In addition, an understanding of national, regional and sub-regional policies and priorities related to energy policy, would be desirable but not essential.

The post-holder must be able to lead and motivate within a team and stakeholders outside their core team. You will need to demonstrate effective planning, leadership, networking and partnership skills; able to influence and negotiate outcomes and work with others to achieve shared goals, develop relationships and partnerships.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills will be required, as well as an ability to secure, plan and deploy financial resources.

Interviews will take place on the afternoon of 18th, 19th or 22nd June.

This is a fixed term contract funded for 18 months due to end 31 December 2021.
