About the team we are recruiting to

At Coventry City Council, we are embarking on an incredible journey to create a brighter future for Coventry's children. As a 'Good' Local Authority, we believe in pushing boundaries and delivering excellence for children and families. Our vision is clear, and our social workers are unwavering in their commitment to putting children and families at the centre of their practice.

We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, is accepting of all and is free from discrimination and bias.

Be part of our inspiring team, making a meaningful difference in the lives of Coventry's children. Together, let's create a nurturing environment where every child's potential can flourish.

The Through Care Service works with looked after children and care leavers.  The service is co-located with carers advisors, a housing liaison officer and a UASC liaison officer.  Through Care is an innovative and dynamic service involved in national pilots of Lifelong Links, Leaving Well and New Belongings and were shortlisted for the 2019 social workers of the year awards.  Coventry is part of the National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum.

What is the job role?

In Coventry, we are investing in practice and new posts have been funded to ensure we keep caseloads of social workers at a level that is manageable, where work-life balance can be really achieved, and where we work together to deliver good outcomes for children and families.

Due to the investment, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic social worker to work within the Through Care service. This service works with looked-after children and care leavers from 12-25.

As a worker, you have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with children and young people and help them reach their full potential. You will be expected to be a team player and the ability to engage and communicate with young people is essential.

You should have a sound knowledge of the legislation and regulations surrounding looked-after children and care leavers, with the ability to apply this to your practice.

The work includes Court Work as we transfer children into the service at the initial hearing to ensure social workers who will be working with children and young people long-term are involved with care planning at this stage. The roles also involve managing adolescent risk and a good understanding of contextual safeguarding is desirable.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Natasha Stirling or Vikki Dales- natasha.stirling@coventry.gov.uk / vikki.dales@coventry.gov.uk

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
