What is the job role?

We are looking for a dynamic Senior Rehabilitation worker to join the Visual and Hearing Impairment (VHI) Team within the Enablement and Therapy service. This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced team of Rehabilitation Workers who provide support to people who are visually and/or hearing impaired and deafblind. You will be using a strengths-based approach to assess, plan and agree a rehabilitation programme to promote independence in activities of daily living both at home and outdoors.

This is an exciting time to join Coventry VHI Team with the recent development of a specialist deafblind service to meet the needs of deafblind people in Coventry, including a contracted communicator-guide service.

There will be an opportunity to undertake Level 3 training in assessing the needs of deafblind adults if not already completed. Two CPD sessions a year with deafblind training provider are offered to all staff who have undertaken the level 3 training.

The VHI Team are an autonomous rehabilitation service based within the Occupational Therapy service; and you will be managed by an Occupational Therapy Team Leader. We work closely alongside our social work colleagues who case manage.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). 

 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual with the following qualities:

  • A qualified Rehabilitation Worker with a minimum of two years post-qualifying experience
  • Experience in supervising rehabilitation workers and ideas to develop the service further
  • Experience working with people with visual and hearing impairments and a dual sensory loss
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working with people, formal/informal carers and health and social care professionals
  • Complete strength-based specialist assessments and client-centered rehabilitation plans.
  • Organising, prioritising a reduced caseload with management responsibilities
  • Self-motivated with a flexible approach

You will be able to work agilely both from home and office to meet the needs of the service. Our flexitime scheme gives employees greater freedom to regulate their working hours by extending the working day, allowing earlier start and later finish times, and permitting greater variability during the lunchtime period.
