About the team we are recruiting to
Coventry Youth Justice Service (YJS) is a fast-paced multi agency team consisting of staff from the Local Authority, Police, Probation, Health and Education.
We work with children and young people aged 10-18 who have offended, who are subject to court orders and out of court disposals or being diverted from the criminal justice system.
What is the job role?
We are looking to recruit a YJS Senior Practitioner to support the management and delivery of an effective and efficient service for children, young people, their families and victims. You will assist the YJS Team Managers with the delivery of a professional service.
This will include:
- Managing a complex caseload with a degree of autonomy in carrying out effective intervention delivery, including: Out of Court Disposals and Post Court/Custodial Sentences.
- Providing reflective individual and/or group supervision to staff as and when required, working in partnership with the YJS Team Manager and in line with departmental policy.
- Assisting in undertaking specific development tasks as agreed with the YJS Team Manager/Operational Lead.
- Contributing to audits of practice and learning through quality assurance and be able to provide challenging and constructive feedback to colleagues and partners.
- Deputising for the YJS Team Managers/Operational Lead at internal meetings and external meetings as required.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an individual who wants to make a positive difference and who has experience and skills/abilities that include:
- Statutory experience of working with children & young people and/or young adults in a criminal justice field
- Managing a complex work & caseload, undertaking complex assessments, and analysing risk.
- Development of areas of practice on behalf of a service/agency and using of a range of evidence-based interventions to effect change.
- Self-led time management skills, and the ability to prioritise their workload whilst dealing with conflicting demands and stressful situations.
- To offer professional supervision to staff and volunteers as required, including staff development and managing performance.
- To support improvement & quality assurances processes and the implementation of new policies, procedures and interventions within the service.
You will be required to:
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of children/young people, families & victims; this will mean some evening working.
- Be on a rota undertaking approximately 9 Saturdays per year.
- Cover bank holidays (approximately two per year) in line with service requirements.
