Senior Planning Technical Support Officer

Planning Policy and Environment is a service area within Coventry City Council which supports the growth of the city.

The vision and commitment of the Planning Policy and Environment team ensures there is a robust platform to guide the delivery of sustainable development making provision for local people through the delivery of housing, jobs, retail and community uses whilst creating high quality urban and natural environments.

The service area sits within a larger team alongside Development Management, Building Control and Regulatory Services and encompasses a number of individual but related specialisms all focussed on delivering a city for those wishing to live and work here.   Those specialisms include Planning, Ecology, Trees and Landscape, Urban Design, Conservation, Archaeology and Environmental Protection.

What is the job role?

This post is part time, working 25 hours per week.

We are looking for a Senior Planning Technical Support Officer to deliver a high quality customer service in a way that contributes to the achievement of the City Council’s vision and objectives for a growing and sustainable city.

As a high performing Planning Team we are currently transforming the way we provide our service, looking to improve our processes to find further efficiencies and ensure the delivery of a value for money service.   

In your role you will be:

  • Dealing with enquiries, through varying mediums, ensuring that where possible they are resolved at first contact, or that messages are passed on to the relevant person for action; seeking to resolve queries and using judgement as to when to pass on more complex issues.
  • Undertaking data input and document production using the range of systems in use within the Planning service.
  • Maintain computerised systems, retrieving information as requested, and ensuring that information is kept up to date; to include creation of databases and spreadsheets as appropriate and provision of information and reports as required.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an administrator who has good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal to deal with members of the public and establish rapport with colleagues and team members. You will have experience of a wide range of technical administrative based duties and have previously created and produced a range of high quality documents such as presentations, spreadsheets, reports.

You must be able to work using your own initiative, as well as working as part of a large team to demonstrate a One Coventry ethos and a supportive working environment. If this is you then come and join us, be part of the team.
