Senior Housing Enforcement Officer

This is an exciting time for Coventry City Council; awarded the UK City of Culture for 2021, with a rapidly expanding population and a buoyant and growing private rented sector, keeping residents safe and tackling poor housing conditions is a key strategic priority for the Council.

Coventry has many challenges in the housing market with 25% of its properties in the private rented sector. Some of these properties are managed by criminal landlords who put their tenant's lives at risk.

The Council provides a property licensing and housing enforcement service which consists of a team of Housing Enforcement Officers dealing with complaints regarding poor housing conditions and poor management of privately rented properties and tenants.

What is the job role?

We are looking for a full time Senior Housing Enforcement Officer who is able to manage, motivate and lead staff in the day to day operation of the Housing Enforcement Team.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with landlords, tenants and residents in a Private Sector housing setting and have experience in taking enforcement action including prosecutions and civil penalties. Knowledge of HHSRS and other legislation specific to housing standards is a key requirement of this role.

You will also be responsible for managing the Housing Enforcement Officers who respond to service requests from residents, taking part in pro-active enforcement action and leading on other projects in the private rented sector.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team undertaking law enforcement in the private rented sector.

Who are we looking for?

As the Senior Housing Enforcement Officer, you will be educated to degree level in Building or similar discipline or have equivalent knowledge from relevant work experience and have supervisory/management skills.

The ability to communicate complex issues and work on your own initiative or as part of a team is key as well as being able to cut to the heart of a problem and find a suitable resolution.
