About the team we are recruiting to

Waste is a busy operational department that provides essential services to the residents of Coventry, Nuneaton & Bedworth and Commercial.  We conduct over 210,000 collections a week on an alternate weekly collection system in Coventry alone, collection domestic waste .  In order to conduct the services we provide we have a large number of crews across all services and use various tipping locations.

What is the job role?

Due to high demand and high volume of application forms, this role is closing Thursday 24 June 2021.

We have a number of permanent and 6 month fixed term contracts for Waste Senior Crew members to join our team and provide an effective, efficient and timely Waste provision across our City and service areas. 

Positions will provide services within Domestic Waste, Commercial Waste including Nuneaton and Bedworth Domestic Recycling Collections team. Collections operate throughout Coventry, Nuneaton and Bedworth and the surrounding sub region.

Senior Crew members are key to the smooth running and efficient Waste collection service.

Under the general direction of the Supervising Team Leaders, you will deliver a high quality safe, responsive and customer focused waste service. 

You will be responsible for supervising the crew activities whilst collecting and emptying refuse / recycling containers, ensuring that the crew carryout their duties in a safe, responsible and customer friendly manner.

Duties will include:

• Ensure the team champion a customer focussed service and are ambassadors of Coventry City Council
• Ensure that the your crew are trained, follow process and procedure in a timely and safe manner  (in particular Health & Safety and Safe Systems of Work)
• Point of contact using two way radio, telephone, or handheld computer to update office on events of the day and record and monitor daily round information
• Ensure that the vehicles are being used safely
• Customer liaison and escalation point

- a good working knowledge of operational Health & Safety and Safe Systems at Work

In return, we can offer you a 37 hours per week contract.  (A number of 6 month fixed term contracts are also available).

Core operation shift start times are as follows:

• Domestic - Shifts start at 7am  (Tuesday to Friday)
• NBBC – Shifts start 6.30am (Monday to Friday)
• Commercial – Shifts start 6am  (Monday – Friday)

Occasional weekend and bank holiday work may be available.
