About the team we are recruiting to
The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.
We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.
We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.
Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas:
- Nursery Workers
- Teaching Assistants
- Leadership/Management; and
- Customer Care.
We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop.
Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?
Coventry Adult Education is seeking an Administrator to join our team to provide a high quality, professional, supportive and responsive reception and administrative function within the Service.
The post holder must have previous experience of an administrative role within an office environment and IT skills, to undertake a variety of tasks including the following:
Customer facing reception duties to deal with enquiries from a range of sources.
Provide advice and guidance to our learners
Processing learner information on our MIS system
Various admin duties including raising registers and monitoring attendance
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
You will be expected to use your initiative to deal with issues as and when they arise and be able to identify more complex issues that need to be escalated. Reception experience is desirable as is experience of using IT software.
Please note that you must have a Level 2 English and Maths qualification (GCSE Grade C4 or above or Functional Skills Level 2, or equivalent), together with previous experience of data input to be considered for this role.
This position is over 5 days, Monday to Friday, 9am – 2pm, Term Time Only. This post is a fixed term contract for 11 months.
Salary will be pro rata to the number of weeks and hours worked.
