What is the job role?

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and highly motivated SEND Leader committed to securing the best possible outcomes for children who are vulnerable or have SEND. This role is non-classroom based. We are able to offer a wide range of CPD opportunities for staff across a range of stages in their careers.
The successful applicant must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and have a track record of excellent SEND provision in their own teaching. The applicant will need to be highly committed, motivated and passionate professional, who possesses a strong work ethic to enable themselves to fully support children with additional needs in our School.
You'll need to have a strong commitment to raising educational attainment for children and young people with SEND, including working with pupils directly and supporting other staff to do so.
You will have good leadership skills to inspire and motivate other teachers, model good practice, and develop a whole school commitment to supporting pupils with SEND. You will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills - for building relationships with parents, teachers, and external professionals, writing learning and support plans, reports on pupil progress, and training and guidance for staff.
Coventry City Council have a wealth of networks to support staff in schools and there is a ready-made network of SENCOs.
You will be well-supported by the Senior Leadership Team. The school offers an in-depth Induction and CPD Programme and there is great potential for you to develop your career.
The SEND Leader must
- Have QTS
- SENDCO qualification or have substantial SEND experience and be ready to start the qualification
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEND strategy and policy
- Carry out assessments of pupils with SEND to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and parents
- Work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans
- Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school – this includes psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists
- Apply for funding and grants to support SEND provision in the school
- Provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers and TAs on supporting pupils with SEND
- Support teachers and TAs to develop schemes of work and learning programmes for pupils with SEND
- Support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom
- Manage and advise on the school budget and resources for SEND provision
- Develop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
- Analyse school, local and national data and develop appropriate strategies and interventions
- Manage SEND teachers, teaching assistants and support staff to ensure and improve pupil progress and attainment
- Keep up to date with national and local policies related to SEND and cascade information to colleagues
- Deliver staff training and CPD for staff
