SEND IASS Administrator
About the team we are recruiting to
The Coventry Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Support Service exists to deliver the aspirational challenge set to us by young people with SEND and their families: ‘To Lift the Cloud of Limitation and enable them to enjoy an ordinary life’.
We are a creative, connected and forward-thinking service. Together with our families and partners in schools, settings, the NHS and third sector, we have driven change that has pushed us to the cutting edge of SEND. This includes embedding co-production across all areas of service delivery, investing in our SEND workforce, and pioneering new initiatives such as the award-nominated 'Together We Can' partnership group to engage Early Years children and their families and 'My Support Plan', a family-centred approach to understanding children's strengths and needs and tailoring their support.
When Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) completed a Local Area inspection of Coventry in October 2019, they commended our “genuine passion and commitment to get things right for children and young people with SEND and their families”; our respect for the “lived experiences of children and young people with SEND and their parents” and the “strong partnership between school settings and education service providers, with a high level of buy-back of specialist services”.
Coventry’s SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SEND IASS) provides access to impartial information and support, promoting the empowerment of children, young people and their parents in decisions around their special educational needs and disability.
The service ensures that Coventry Local Authority complies with its duty under the Children and Families Act 2014 to offer children, young people and their families with SEND information and advice relating to education, health and care issues. We also provide support around exclusions from school
You’ll be joining a small, friendly team with a strong ethic of collaborative working, where every day offers a chance to develop your knowledge and skills for the benefit of others.
In developing effective partnership working with a range of organisations and professionals, both locally and nationally, the service takes pride in its excellent reputation for supporting service users effectively and in a timely manner.
What is the job role?
Following the internal promotion of the previous holder of this role, we are looking for someone to help support families of children and young people with SEND by providing personable and efficient administrative support.
As well as being the first point of contact for telephone enquiries from a wide range of service users, you’ll also have responsibilities for maintaining our website and social media communications, and supporting service events. The role also involves ensuring that the service has accurate data collection for report writing and shaping future delivery models.
Please note the salary advertised will be pro-rata to hours and weeks worked (term time only).
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
If you’ve got:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- A creative eye for the presentation of information;
- A good knowledge of ICT skills;
and want to provide excellent public service, then you’re just the sort of person that we’re looking for.
