About the team we are recruiting to
Coventry City Council’s Legal Service provides in-house legal support. The team offers a professional, comprehensive, tailor-made service to address legal issues of every description. The team is highly motivated, eager to develop and face challenges head on.
What is the job role?
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Lawyer in the Regulatory Team who can undertake criminal and licensing work and can contribute to other types of local authority regulatory work including housing/ homelessness and information governance.
You will undertake advocacy in the Magistrates Court on a range of matters and advise at Councillor meetings
Who are we looking for?
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive. You have a good knowledge of criminal and licensing law. You are an experienced advocate in courts or tribunals. You have strong drafting skills. You are able to give sound, pragmatic legal advice on complex matters to officers and Members within the Council. You have knowledge of a range of local authority regulatory matters.
You must be able to work effectively as part of a team and establish good relations with our client departments, outside agencies, members of the public and Councillors.
Good organisational, communication and IT skills will be required, as well as the ability to work to tight deadlines. You need to be able to draft legal correspondence, carry out legal research, conduct training sessions, act as an advocate in courts and tribunals and attend Council Member meetings.
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
