About the team we are recruiting to

The Public Health team is part of the Public Health, Insight and Migration Division. 
Reporting to the Director of Public Health and Wellbeing, the team helps people to stay healthy and protect them from threats to their health.

The Public Health team commissions and delivers a wide range of services and programmes that tackle health inequalities and help people to live healthier lives including:

  • Alcohol and drugs misuse strategy, treatment and recovery services
  • Sexual health services including sexually transmitted infections and contraception
  • Healthy lifestyles support with losing weight, getting more active, giving up smoking, cutting down on alcohol and improving your well being
  • Physical activity strategy and projects including school based exercise, parks and cycling
  • Family health including health visiting, infant feeding, school nurses, teenage pregnancy support, family weight management and services supporting BME families
  • Health protection strategy and services including air quality, blood borne virus testing, screening & immunisations, infection control, emergency planning and outbreak management
  • The Marmot City strategy, reducing health inequalities across the city
  • Domestic abuse and sexual abuse strategies and support services
  • Youth violence reduction

What is the job role?

1x Public Health Programme Officer – Lifestyles & Long-term Conditions – Permanent Contract.

1x Public Health Programme Officer – People – 12 month fixed term contract/ secondment.

We are looking to recruit two Public Health Programme Officers to join the team. The Public Health Programme Officer in the People team is a full time, fixed term contract/secondment for 12 months. The Public Health Programme Officer in the Lifestyles and Long-term Conditions team is a permanent, full-time position.

The Programme Officer for Lifestyles and Long-term conditions will support the development and delivery of the Lifestyles, Long Term Conditions and Mental Wellbeing programme.

The Programme Officer for People will help maximize the life chances for the people of Coventry, including improving the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families working on ageing well and reducing social isolation.

You’ll be part of a wider Public Health team at an exciting time for Coventry as a host venue for Commonwealth Games 2022. The team are leading on programmes of work across the city to improve health and reduce health inequalities, as well as supporting the City’s new programmes through our partnerships and commissioning approaches.

Who are we looking for?

You’ll have strong programme/project management skills and have experience of working collaboratively with staff across a range of organisations to develop joint solutions to complex problems. You’ll have a track record in problem solving, effectively using data to understand local people’s needs and targeting resources in a way which maximizes efficiency and effectiveness.

You’ll also be a strong communicator, able to explain and present complex information to a wide range of audiences, including Coventry’s Health and Well-being Board, elected Members and community and voluntary sector groups.

  • Please demonstrate your experience of project management, monitoring and evaluation to successfully shape and deliver improvement initiatives.
