The Employment & Skills Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We work with a range of delivery partners to provide a wide portfolio of top quality support to Coventry residents of all ages who are looking for work.  We work with partners across the city and our Employer Hub actively works with local employers to generate opportunities for local people. 

Our friendly and welcoming Job Shop is situated in Coventry City Centre. We are here to support all Coventry residents to search for employment, training, apprenticeships and work placements.  People can explore a wide range of local vacancies that are updated daily and access training opportunities.  

We also provide ground-breaking specialist support for local residents who face multiple and sometimes complex barriers that make it hard for them to find a job.  The Job Shop and our exciting range of specialist employment support programmes are among the very best support available in the UK 

What is the job role?

Based at the flagship Coventry Job Shop, Coventry City Councils Employer Hub offers free recruitment and HR support for all businesses in Coventry & Warwickshire. With a team of dedicated specialist advisors, the team offer bespoke recruitment, training and employee wellbeing support to local businesses and employers.

Having successfully supported local businesses to fill over 10,000 positions within Coventry & Warwickshire, the team are readily available to offer free high-level employment support throughout the entire recruitment process, with assistance in job creation, job description and advertisement creation to arranging final interviews and supporting work trials. Working across the city with our wide range of Training Providers and Partners, we are able to further enhance the lives of Coventry citizens by providing high quality and personalised education, training and employment support.

This post will be based within the City Councils Employer Hub and will co-ordinate the development of recruitment and training services to SMEs within the City.  The approach will be to broker partnerships that can offer targeted support.  In addition to having a co-ordinating role the post holder will work on a one to one advising and supporting SMEs to recruit effectively.  The post holder will act as a single point of contact for the SME, despite brokering partnerships. This will ensure growing SMEs have access to well-suited and productive staff, allowing them to achieve their growth potential. The Employer Hub is designed to assist business recruit locally, providing local jobs for local people.

This post is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is fixed term until 31st March 2023.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing delivery partnerships with local training and employment support providers in order to meet complex recruitment and skill shortages amongst SMEs in the City
  • Working 1:1 with businesses to meet their unique needs for recruiting to each vacancy
  • Linking SMEs with local education and training providers, both to help improve the shape of workforce development provision, and also to identify potential candidates that will realise the specific requirements of the expanding businesses
  • Working in partnership with Jobcentreplus, local training providers and Programme Providers to ensure maximum promotion of opportunities to local job seekers
  • Evaluating achievements and obtaining feedback from Employers engaged on the programme in order to continually improve the service
  • Maintaining both ICT and paper records of work done and time spent with employers in line with the SME Growth Programme audit requirements
  • Working within robust internal audit procedure to ensure that all contractual obligations are met and income generation is maximised

Who are we looking for?

Previous experience is essential and post holder must be able to demonstrate:

  • Previous work experience demonstrating lead project delivery
  • Previous experience of working on significant community regeneration projects that have been innovative in nature
  • Problem solving aptitude
  • Managing people and projects
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills
  • Experience of successful delivery of engagement performance, including monitoring against KPIs, auditing, assuring and checking quality of outputs
  • Experience of using new and innovative communication channels
  • The use of information technology to store, analyse and interpret data and information, preferably Microsoft Office applications.
