Payroll & Pensions Trainee/Assistant

About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry City Council's Payroll & Pensions Team provides the full range of services to the Council, as well as to external customers on a traded service basis.

This involves processing payrolls for the Council, Schools and over 100 customers spread throughout the region paying up to 20,000 people per month.  We have an excellent reputation and our intent is to grow our capacity for new business opportunities. 

Plans are in place for the modernisation and digitalisation of the Payroll & Pensions Service.  This involves undertaking projects to maximise use of current and emerging technologies for payroll provision and increasing the range of features within our payroll employee self service portal.

The team has a wide range of skills and has an ethos of personal and professional development and are very supportive of each other. We have a value on internal progression within the service and are developing career pathways.


What is the job role?

You will be given training on the system, legislative requirements and terms and conditions that are needed to provide the services, leading to qualifications in Payroll or Pensions.

Initially working alongside experienced staff, you will on a day to day basis carry out a range of task that include statutory and non-statutory deductions, employment contract changes, starters and leavers and manual calculations for both payroll and pensions

We work on a flexible basis and are currently reviewing options of home/office working ready for when the office opens back up in the summer.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual who has excellent numeracy skills with an interest in pay and finance. Accuracy is paramount along with an attention to detail.

You should be able to work at a fast pace and be flexible in order to meet numerous deadlines every month.

Quality is at the heart of everything we do and you should be passionate about providing excellent customer service.
