The Education Entitlement Service (EES) strives to deliver outstanding services for our customers, predominately the children of Coventry, who may be requiring access to education or alternative education provision. We ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported; have a voice, that hopefully leads to their high achievement and excellent progress.
The EES is made up of a diverse range of teams all working together to recognise, support and apply innovative solutions to address the growing issues in relation to trying to educate some of our most vulnerable pupils in schools.
The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) supports newly arrived children in the admission process into Education and monitors Children Missing Education (CME). Officers may make home visits to investigate family circumstances, with special attention given to safeguarding concerns.
Multilingual Assistants work directly with children in both primary and secondary schools providing bilingual support for children who speak English as an Additional Language.
What is the job role?
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a project aimed at enhancing the attainment of vulnerable newly-arrived pupils. We are ideally looking for a confident teacher with experience working with newly arrived pupils in either a primary or early years context.
Duties will include:
- Delivery of a city-wide programme of support for vulnerable newly-arrived pupils in schools across the city
- Contributing to the development and delivery of in-service training opportunities and CPD promoting high quality provision for vulnerable newly-arrived pupils
- Working with class teachers to develop their practice in meeting the needs of newly arrived pupils in mainstream settings
We have 2 posts: 1 x 15 hours permanent and 1 x 12.5 hours fixed term for one year.
TLR 2b is available to appropriately qualified and experienced candidates
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
- Experience of working with vulnerable pupils, particularly those who speak English as an Additional Language, either as a class teacher or as a support teacher.
- Experience of contributing to projects designed to raise the attainment of under-achieving pupils.
- To be a confident practitioner able to work across a number of schools in support of the programme.
- QTS and evidence of further professional development in a relevant field.
