What is the job role?

We are looking for an autonomous and motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Learning Disability Promoting Independance team who deliver assessments as part of a promoting independence pathway and for adults who live with a learning disability and / or autism spectrum disorder 

You would work alongside  a team of social care staff and travel trainers who assess individuals as part of a short-term up to 12 weeks intervention. 

This post involves coordinating a Multidisciplinary process consisting of representatives of Outreach services, Occupational Therapy, access to employment coaches, and travel training.  

The LD Promoting Independence service coordinates short-term assessment and promoting independence intervention, tailored to the diverse needs of people who live with a learning disability  Autism

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a culturally competent Occupational Therapist who can understand the lived experience of people with a learning disability or learning disability and Autism. You will be compassionate but confident, able to work under pressure and be a motivated member of the team. 

You will be committed and passionate about practice and promoting independence , sharing learning and knowledge and developing your skills and the teams. You will have a solid understanding of,  and be an advocate for the principles of diversity and inclusion in relation to workplace culture and service delivery. 

  • A qualified Occupational Therapist with experience in health and/or social care setting with extensive experience of working in a similar role 

  • Have experience of working with people with physical and Learning disabilities/ Autism, major and minor  adaptations,  moving and handling and promoting independence. In addition insight into  various sensory and communication needs  would be desirable 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills working with a range of people, formal/informal carers and health and social care professionals  

  • Broad experience of working with people with complex physical and cognitive conditions, neurodiversity and behavioural support needs 

  • Complete comprehensive therapy strength- bases assessments and client-centred support plans to promote independence 

  • Self- motivated with a flexible approach
