About the team we are recruiting to

The Education Entitlement Service (EES) strives to deliver outstanding services for our customers, predominately the children of Coventry, who may be requiring access to education or alternative education provision. We ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported; have a voice, that hopefully leads to their high achievement and excellent progress.

The EES is made up of a diverse range of teams all working together to recognise, support and apply innovative solutions to address the growing issues in relation to trying to educate some of our most vulnerable pupils in schools.

The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) supports newly arrived children in the admission process into Education and monitors Children Missing Education (CME).  Officers may make home visits to investigate family circumstances, with special attention given to safeguarding concerns.

Multilingual Assistants work directly with children in both primary and secondary schools providing bilingual support for children who speak English as an Additional Language.

What is the job role?

This is a fixed term 25 hours a week all year round post initially to 31 August 2023.

The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service employs people with good language skills to work as bilingual education assistants in nurseries, primary schools and secondary schools across Coventry and the surrounding area, as well as with other Coventry City Council Departments.  You will primarily be supporting newly arrived children to settle into school and begin to learn English.  You may also be asked to attend ad hoc meetings - both virtual and face to face - to facilitate communication between professionals and parents/children.  You will be working alongside teachers in classrooms and with other Council staff.  There will be the opportunity to provide wider support to the Migration Team during the school holidays.  You will need to be friendly, outgoing and professional with excellent organisational and timekeeping skills.

Previous experience of working in an educational environment would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be given.

Interviews are provisionally booked to take place on 3 August 2022, and will be conducted via a face-to-face, in-person interview at our base in Coventry.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
