Mental Health Social Worker

Adult Social Care is part of the People Directorate within Coventry City Council.  We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this.

In a simple sense all our work, at whatever level should continue to support the strategy of: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people’.

Adult Social Care encompasses a wide range of vital services covering;

  • Social Work Services - we work with individuals who have care and support needs, and with their carers be they older or younger adults
  • Occupational Therapy and Equipment Services - we aim to enhance people’s ability to live safely and independently in their home
  • Internally Provided Services – we provide direct support to people enabling those in most need to live independent and fulfilled lives
  • Business Systems and Continuous Improvement - we provide a range of services including Financial Assessments, provider payment processing and Business Systems administration. The Business Systems team provide support to Adult Social Care, Children’s Services and Education Services.

What is the job role?

The role is to provide a Social Work service for adults who are experiencing a mental disorder, including depressive and anxiety disorders, personality disorders and self harming behaviours.   The role requires risk excellent assessment and care management skills and a detailed knowledge and the ability to apply specific interventions under various legislative procedures including:

The Care Act (including Section 42 Safeguarding enquiries)

The Mental Health Act

The Mental Capacity Act

The Children's Act

The Care Programme Approach. 

The post holder will manage a varied case load and also provide a duty function when required. 

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

Coventry City Council and Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust require a qualified Social Worker (or imminently about to qualify) to join our Mental Health and Well-being Team at Tile Hill Health Centre. The Team is focused on recovery and is passionate about self directed care and positive risk management. The Team helps people across the whole of Coventry, from aged 18, experiencing acute and chronic mental disorders with an emphasis individual treatment plans within the Care Programme Approach and The Care Act.  Using a 'Care Clusters' 3-8 model, applicants need to be experienced in helping design and implement individual care and risk management plans and have the ability to prioritise and maintain challenging workloads. 

The fully multi-disciplinary team is made up of Consultants in Psychiatry and Psychology, Approved Mental Health Professionals, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Community Care and Support Workers and is backed up by a dedicated administration team. 

Due to internal movement, a post of 30 hours per week has become available. The post would be ideal for an experienced or newly qualified professional. We offer excellent supervision and an extensive continued professional career development programme including possible access to AMHP and Best Interest Assessor Training.
