The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.
We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.
We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.
Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas:
- Nursery Workers
- Teaching Assistants
- Leadership/Management; and
- Customer Care.
We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop.
Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?
The post is rewarding and challenging as you deliver learning opportunities to adults in one or more community venues within Coventry.
We are looking for TWO tutors who are enthusiastic and experienced. This is an exciting opportunity to work, for a fixed period of 1 year (in the first instance, with a review), where you will plan and deliver daytime and evening programmes to adult learners.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Two posts are 2 x 2.5 hour sessions per week (180 hours per annum, per post)
You will need relevant subject qualifications, up-to-date knowledge of your subject and experience of teaching adults. A relevant teaching qualification at Level 4 or above is desirable.
The successful applicant will:
- Be passionate, professional, flexible, caring and dedicated to achieve the best outcomes for our learners.
- Have previous experience of teaching, learning and assessment.
You would join a committed and experienced team, which provides a programme for men and women from diverse cultural backgrounds.
We welcome applicants from all sectors of the community, especially people from black and minority ethnic communities and disabled people as they are currently under-represented in the Adult Education Service.
Salary will be pro rata
Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) for an additional pre employment check with effect 1 Sept 22, please note, an online search may form part of this recruitment process.
