The Employment & Skills Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We work with a range of delivery partners to provide a wide portfolio of top quality support to Coventry residents of all ages who are looking for work.  We work with partners across the city and our Employer Hub actively works with local employers to generate opportunities for local people. 

Our friendly and welcoming Job Shop is situated in Coventry City Centre. We are here to support all Coventry residents to search for employment, training, apprenticeships and work placements.  People can explore a wide range of local vacancies that are updated daily and access training opportunities.  

We also provide ground-breaking specialist support for local residents who face multiple and sometimes complex barriers that make it hard for them to find a job.  The Job Shop and our exciting range of specialist employment support programmes are among the very best support available in the UK 

What is the job role?

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Employment and Skills Service and be part of one of our European Social Fund (ESF) projects. This is a provision to ensure Coventry residents receive high-quality, personalised support, which will enable them to move closer to and into good quality sustainable employment.

All programmes are designed to enable Job Coaches to give 1:1 support to all residents aged 16 and over. As a Job Coach, you will provide a wide range of support which includes but not limited to, updating and matching CV’s with live vacancies on offer through our Employer Engagement team, job search advice, mock interviews and referrals to training opportunities. 

Job Coaches within the Job Shop, provide advice and support to Coventry residents from economically disadvantaged groups in order to overcome barriers to work and become economically active. Referrals are made to appropriate services to support clients on their journey to a positive destination. 

You will be employed by Coventry City Council as a Job Coach and will be working on the Collaborate to Train ESF Programme which is part-funded by the European Social Fund.

These posts are Fixed-term contracts until 31/12/2023.

Who are we looking for?

You will need to be excellent at developing positive working relationships, an effective communicator, able to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds, disabilities, and mental health, and crucially have the skills and ability to listen, understand and identify how you can support each customer in a positive manner.

Why not attend our Coventry Adult Education Pre Employment Course that will offer you the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the role, whilst also developing your current knowledge, skills and behaviour to support this chosen career path.  Onsite exposure to the role will be included, to enable you to see and speak with a Job Coach, there will be a guaranteed job interview by accessing this route.
