The Employment & Skills Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We work with a range of delivery partners to provide a wide portfolio of top quality support to Coventry residents of all ages who are looking for work.  We work with partners across the city and our Employer Hub actively works with local employers to generate opportunities for local people. 

Our friendly and welcoming Job Shop is situated in Coventry City Centre. We are here to support all Coventry residents to search for employment, training, apprenticeships and work placements.  People can explore a wide range of local vacancies that are updated daily and access training opportunities.  

We also provide ground-breaking specialist support for local residents who face multiple and sometimes complex barriers that make it hard for them to find a job.  The Job Shop and our exciting range of specialist employment support programmes are among the very best support available in the UK 

What is the job role?

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Employment and Skills Service and ensure Coventry residents receive high quality and personalised support, enabling them to move closer to and into good quality employment.

As a Job Coach you will provide advice and support to Coventry residents coming from outside EU countries in economically disadvantaged groups to overcome barriers to work and become economically active, referring clients to appropriate services. 

You will have a passion to help others by effective job coaching and supporting people into work.

The role involves

  • Supporting customers to pursue their employment aspirations and then working with individuals on a 1:1 basis to achieve this.
  • Maintaining accurate records to meet EU requirements, preparing claim documents, checking evidence and supporting management to ensure that EU targets are monitored and achieved.
  • Working virtually, from the job shop and other various sites across the city, you will you will be responsible for carrying out 1:1 support with each individual to identify opportunities into employment or positive destination.  
  • You will carry out focused assessments and create a clear plan of action which will enable the individual to move closer to and into education/training or good quality and sustainable employment.
  • Your role will involve accessing suitable resources, partners and support agencies, as individuals can face barriers in reaching their career aspirations or employment.  

Who are we looking for?

You will need to be excellent at developing positive working relationships, an effective communicator, able to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds including BAME, refugees and migrants, and crucially have the skills and ability to listen, understand and identify how you can support each customer in a positive manner.

You will also need to have a sound understanding of various immigration status, the restrictions and the barriers that they are facing in getting into employment

Flexibility is key as the role is peripatetic and will require access to individuals virtually or through centres, so experience coordinating and managing a mixed diverse caseload either 1:1 or in safe groups is key. 

Confidence using IT and platforms to communicate with customers and throughout the business will be necessary.  The role will require a high level of time management and accurate completion of auditable documents for the in-house system and funding streams along with the achievement of KPI’s.

Must be passionate about supporting individuals into work, be adaptable and hold excellent people skills. 

Be organised and disciplined when working autonomously or when teamwork is required.

This is a 37 hour per week fixed term contract until December 2023. 

You will be employed by Coventry City Council as a Job Coach and will be working on the MyCoventry EU Programme which is part funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.
