About the team we are recruiting to

Our small friendly team provides support to Coventry City Council's Revenue & Benefits service.

The Revenues Service is a large team, working together to collect £340 million of corporate revenue to help the Council provide vital services to Coventry residents. From council tax to business rates to invoices for stalls at the Godiva Festival, the team perform a range of roles to ensure we provide excellent services to residents and internal council departments and that ultimately, we maximise the collection of public funds.  The revenue we collect ensures the council can provide services from bin collections to looking after our parks and green spaces to providing the best possible chances in life for our looked after children.  

The Benefits Service is comprised of diverse, multi-talented teams who all have the same aim, to help the city’s most vulnerable residents. Our work is varied and covers the assessment and administration of schemes that provide financial help and support for those in need. 

We embrace the ONE COVENTRY approach, working closely with our external partners and other Council teams, such as the Housing and Homeless teams and Children’s teams, ensuring we have a holistic approach to supporting our residents.

What is the job role?

We are looking to recruit a Systems Support Officer to join our Revenues & Benefits service. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, friendly team who work well together and where no two days are the same. We provide system support largely to the Revenues and Benefits Service but also on occasion to other areas of the Council.

Some of what you will achieve in the next 12 months:

  • You will have supported IT services delivered to users primarily within the Revenues and Benefits Service, enabling the required operational processes needed for the business to be successful.
  • You will have created and generated statistical reports for the Service
  • You will have ensured checks are successfully completed before opening systems for the day.
  • You will have helped to create and follow test plans when there are new upgrades to the system.
  • You will have been involved in new projects where your input has been valued and made a difference
  • You will have liaised with our software suppliers to report and find solutions to problems.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is tech savvy, able to problem solve with experience of using software systems. You will be proactive when you find discrepancies, or something does not go as planned. You will also have good organisational skills and whilst as well as using your own initiative; you'll be able to work well as part of a team. Working accurately and meeting deadlines and targets, you'll have a willingness to learn new skills, be flexible to meet team needs.

The Service works flexibly with a hybrid mix of office and home-based working.  A willingness to work occasional non-standard hours is required.

  • Your knowledge and skills of using ICT systems
  • Experience of working under pressure to resolve problems
  • Your experience of working on your own as well as part of a team to achieve objectives
