About the team we are recruiting to

The Early Years Service in Coventry provides support, advice and guidance to practitioners working with families who have children aged from Birth to Five to improve outcomes for children. This includes enabling parents and carers to support their children’s learning and development.

What is the job role?

Please note that this is a full-time fixed-term role initially until 31 March 2025, with a possible extension until 31 July 2025 subject to grant conditions.

We are excited to be building capacity within the Early Years' team through the appointment of a Home Learning Environment Programme Coordinator (HLE).

This new post is grant funded through The Best Start for Life Programme  where Coventry is a trailblazer amongst 75 Local Authorities selected for funding. 

The successful candidate will help to achieve the vision for the Home Learning Environment strand of the Best Start for Life Programme.

As the programme coordinator you will work closely with both the Senior Adviser: Birth to Five and the Learning and Development Adviser.  

You will support the development of the home learning environment project plan and coordinate its implementation using a range of data to target the right activities in the right places.  

You will monitor delivery of the plan, ensuring timely data submission from partners to support your reporting of progress and impact to the Best Start for Life Project Board. 

You will help to develop new approaches and activities, using both face to face and digital solutions to support families with early learning and child development at home.  

You will work with a range of partners to communicate and coordinate the HLE strand delivery in family hubs, early years settings, with child minders, community settings and in family homes, where appropriate. 

The postholder will also manage the development, co-ordination and delivery of workforce development and training programmes related to communication and language development. 

 This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will :

  • Be resilient and positive, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.   

  • Have strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage your own time flexibly. 

  • Have experience in monitoring and evaluating the impact of projects and writing evaluative reports.  

  • The ability to motivate and organise others outside of your direct remit to complete actions and implement new activity.   

  • Understand the impact of poverty on children, families and communities, and the barriers that communities face in relation to changing outcomes. 

  • Have well-developed IT skills and proficiency in using Microsoft Office.   

  • Feel confident in modelling effective practice related to early education activities for children aged 0 – 5 years and their families. 

  • Understand the importance of workforce development in the early years' foundation stage.   

  • Be open minded, flexible and excited about the development of new ideas and initiatives and have a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of Coventry families.  

Key Requirements  

  • Qualified Teacher Status,  PGCE/ QTS, Early Years Teacher / Early Years Professional Status or a Relevant Level 6 qualification in Early Years Education 

  • Substantial experience of working with children aged 0 – 5 years and families. 

  • Leadership of an early years setting or EYFS leader role in a school for a minimum of three years. 

  • Able to evidence work related to co-ordination and delivery of projects across different organisations to meet identified outcomes over extended periods of time.

  • The ability to travel to venues across the City
