Highways Technical Services Technician

What is the job role?

This is an exciting and sustainable career opportunity which will allow you to gain experience as well as developing your skill base by being part of a dedicated, supportive and integrated highway maintenance technical team. Both external and internal training and mentoring will be offered to support and develop the person in this role.

As a Highway Technical Services Technician you will be working across three specific service areas including; Highway Maintenance, Flood Risk management and drainage and highway bridges and structures to provide technical support for the development and delivery of the various maintenance schemes and associated tasks. You will work closely with the team leaders and assistant engineers to support them in the delivery of the annual programme of planned maintenance work.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with the appreciation and/or knowledge of highway maintenance engineering and the management and maintenance of the highways network. It would be an advantage to have experience of working for or with Local Authority highways maintenance sector or of working with a Civil Engineering consultant or contractor at a similar level, but not essential.

As a successful candidate you will need to have a full current UK driving licence. You will have the ability to use and understand IT systems in an office-based environment including basic CAD, GIS/MapInfo and MS Office programs. You will have good communication skills and have the ability to work to deadlines and work under pressure.

From your experience can you provide an example of when you have had to be adaptable when faced with a change of circumstance, what you did and how you achieved a positive outcome?
  • As an organisation we need to work together across teams, services, partners and organisational boundaries to deliver high quality services for local people. What qualities and behaviours do you think make a ‘good team member’ and what contribution would you make to the team to help achieve collaborative team working and goals?
