That’s why we are looking for people who can help provide the very best and this is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced Highways Maintenance team, with opportunities for training and further career development.

What is the job role?

Have you got an interest in Highway Maintenance and Construction? If so, Coventry City Council are looking to recruit two Apprentices. You will be working for the Highways Operations & Development Department within Coventry City Council. We are a direct labour organisation (DLO) working directly for Coventry City Council, you will be working as part of a successful team responsible for the construction and maintenance of footways, carriageways and drainage throughout the City. As a Highways Apprentice you will be given the opportunity develop skills and work alongside experienced teams helping improve roads and footways across the city. Under the direction of Highways Site Supervisors and skilled operatives you will learn how to pave, lay kerbs, rake tarmac, install drainage systems plus a lot more as part of your apprenticeship. You will be supported to undertake a Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship standard. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity for 18 months. Who are we looking for?

We are looking for 2 Highway Apprentices who have a basic interest in Highway Construction and Maintenance, who is committed to achieving an Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship standard. You must be willing to work outside in all weathers, be reliable, punctual with good communication skills. Be able to work using your own initiative as well as work in a team environment.

You will be required to travel to college on week-long block release where you will be required to stay in a hotel provided by the Council.

The application and selection process for candidates is as follows:

Pre-interview and assessment* date:  Friday 21st June 2024

Interview date(s): Friday 28th June 2024

Expected start date: Monday 12th August 2024

* The pre-interview is a virtual short session to give candidates further details of the apprenticeship role and to help them understand what to expect from and how to prepare for the final interview. You will also be given a link to complete a short diagnostic assessment to check the level of Maths and English that you are currently working at and identify any support you may require.
