We’re the team that keeps the Council’s vehicles, plant and equipment safe, compliant and ready for action — helping everything from waste collection to road repairs run smoothly across the city.

We’re a friendly, forward‑thinking group who believe in teamwork, accuracy and great customer service. No two days are the same, and you’ll work with lots of different people across the Council, as well as suppliers and hire companies, to keep our fleet running at its best.

Joining us as an apprentice means stepping into a fast‑paced, supportive environment where you’ll learn new skills, take on real responsibility and see the impact of your work every day. We’re always looking for better ways of doing things, and we’ll encourage you to share ideas and grow your confidence.

If you want to start your career in a team that makes a real difference to Coventry — and gives every customer a positive experience — we’d love to welcome you on board.

What is the job role?

As a Fleet Assistant Apprentice, you will support the smooth and efficient running of the Council’s Fleet Services. You’ll learn how to keep fleet records up to date, process job cards and invoices, manage vehicle and equipment hire requests, and assist with supplier and documentation tasks. You’ll also help produce key reports that support effective service delivery.

Your role will involve handling customer enquiries professionally and completing paperwork accurately to help ensure the fleet remains safe, compliant and cost‑effective. Working alongside experienced colleagues and external suppliers, you’ll provide reliable administrative and technical support that contributes to a well‑organised, high‑performing fleet service for the Council.

You will undertake the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship standard. Further information for this apprenticeship can be found on: Business administrator / Skills England

This apprenticeship role is a fixed-term contract for 21 months in line with the length of the apprenticeship training.

In this role, you’ll develop key skills in administration, customer service, and fleet operations. You’ll work with data and IT systems, support colleagues, and communicate with suppliers and customers, all while building confidence and professional capability.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Accurate, organised and professional in their approach
  • Comfortable using IT systems and willing to learn new tools
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and use their initiative
  • A strong communicator, both verbally and in writing
