We are a forward thinking and dynamic Financial Management Team responsible for providing a diverse range of functions to drive the Council to fulfil its transformational and net zero journey. We deliver a full range of financial and accounting services to facilitate the effective delivery of services for Coventry residents, and deliver sustainable and commercial projects which are redefining the infrastructure of our city.

Finance is at the heart of everything that the Council does and is fundamental to the delivery of our ‘One Coventry’ plan. We work flexibly with internal officers and external partners alike, to ensure the highest standards of service are delivered and the high expectations the organisation has of us are met.

What is the job role?

Finance Business Partner (Lead Accountant)

The main duties and responsibilities of the roles will include:

  • To act as the primary finance business link with senior service managers
  • Support and challenge senior service managers to deliver sustainable financial solutions to service initiatives and issues in support of the One Coventry Plan
  • Uphold a strong performance management ethos with service manager colleagues
  • Pro-active facilitation of the development of medium to long term financial planning solutions in support of a sustainable Council financial plan
  • Understanding and provision of technical financial information in an audience specific manner, to Council directors and other senior managers

Who are we looking for?

The Council already has a positive track record of service delivery whilst maintaining a strong and sustainable financial management approach.  We consistently deliver quality services and regeneration of the City in a financially sustainable manner for the benefit of citizens and businesses. We have successfully delivered our ‘UK City of Culture 2021’, and been a host City for the Commonwealth Games 2022.  We also have many green credentials including being the home to the UK’s first EV Battery Industrialisation Centre and the UK’s first publicly owned Regional Materials Recycling Facility, as well as offering the highest number of EV charge points outside of London

We now wish to build on that further through our refreshed One Coventry Plan by improving further the outcomes and opportunities for our communities, increasing the economic prosperity of the city, and tackling further the causes of climate change. 

We have a very pro-active and forward thinking financial management team who are at the heart of all the ambitions the Council has set itself.  Our Medium Term Financial strategy is robust, and a we have a clean bill of health from our auditors in respect of our Value For money arrangements, something we are very proud of.  We are looking for 3 self-motivated CCAB qualified professionals to support the Council to maintain this momentum and help us build on our existing successes.

Being a Finance Business Partner, you will be a great communicator and problem solver, and have a strong grasp of financial modelling to support decision making.  You’ll be highly creative and have depth of experience in supporting service managers deliver, and be able to interpret and understand technical service information.  You will have a collaborative approach to work, with an eye for financial performance management and accountability, and will want to make a difference in support of our One Coventry ambitions.
