Facilities Assistant - Housing & Homelessness

The Facilities Management & Site Services Team are Responsible for ensuring the smooth day to day operation of the portfolios by space planning, service charge preparation and management, contractor management, meeting room setup, porterage and health and safety management. Part of this service area is our newly created Housing & Homelessness portfolio.

What is the job role?

We are looking for Facilities Assistants to support our newly acquired Housing and Homelessness estate. The successful candidates will be joining at an exciting time as the council purchases property to use as temporary accommodation for individuals and families. The Facilities Assistants will be responsible to the Facilities Manager – Housing & Homelessness and will work closely with the Housing and Homelessness team. You will be responsible for ensuring our properties are supported and maintained ensuring safe and secure accommodation for tenants. Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Carrying out repairs and maintenance
  • Void turnarounds and inspections
  • Health and safety inspections and testing
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Cleaning & portering

We have 1 full time 37 hour position available and 2 part time 18.5 hour positions. When applying for this role please indicate which contract you are applying for. 

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has experience of working in a facilities/ building environment. You will need the skills and ability to communicate clearly, verbally and written. You may also be asked to work out of normal working hours.

For the role you’ll need: 

  • Experience in a Facilities /Building role
  • Good level and application of general maintenance
  • H&S knowledge
  • The ability to travel around the City to our various properties
  • Willingness to undertake training in relation to the role including first aid
