About the team we are recruiting to

The Employment & Skills Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We work with a range of delivery partners to provide a wide portfolio of top quality support to Coventry residents of all ages who are looking for work.  We work with partners across the city and our Employer Hub actively works with local employers to generate opportunities for local people. 

Our friendly and welcoming Job Shop is situated in Coventry City Centre. We are here to support all Coventry residents to search for employment, training, apprenticeships and work placements.  People can explore a wide range of local vacancies that are updated daily and access training opportunities.  

We also provide ground-breaking specialist support for local residents who face multiple and sometimes complex barriers that make it hard for them to find a job.  The Job Shop and our exciting range of specialist employment support programmes are among the very best support available in the UK 

What is the job role?

If you are a highly organised individual with an interest in Employment and Skills Support, then this is an exciting and challenging time to work within the sector with an opportunity to help shape future local delivery. Supporting our customers is key, but also using a strategic mindset and engaging through the West Midlands Combined Authority to aid in the creation of future programmes, moulding how funding is utilised and how this impacts the people of Coventry.

The postholder will work closely with the Head of Service and senior management team to actively meet the challenges and opportunities arising following Brexit and the Covid pandemic. The role provides development opportunity, working with other members of the team and providing cover where required, for example during stakeholder meetings.

Fixed-term contract until 31/12/2023

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates with an appreciation of the importance of employment and skills support, and how this support can help transform lives.  Knowledge of the local and national labour market would be useful.  It would be helpful to possess a good understanding of data and how to apply it to support bids, reports and strategies. A understanding of CRM databases and report writing would be beneficial and a high level of accuracy, alongside a proactive approach is essential. 

Proven high standards of verbal and written communication skills with good grammar and accuracy are essential.  You should possess effective organisation skills, efficiently managing diaries and meetings and be able to produce accurate data, papers and presentations. 

You should also be able to easily develop rapport and build relationships with stakeholders and team members.
