Employee Benefits & Finance Manager
About the team we are recruiting to
Coventry City Council's Employee Benefits & Finance Team is a small, busy and innovative service responsible for procuring and administering employee benefits and financial reconciliation and budget monitoring.
Our People Plan 2020-2022 sets out our ambitions as a HR service that will inspire others, drive and secure opportunities to improve and transform the services we offer to the citizens of Coventry. The introduction of a new benefits package is underway and is a key element of this.
The work of our team spreads across two main areas: Benefits - the selection and implementation of new benefits and their marketing and administration; and Finance – the reconciliation of the payrolls for the Council and our customers, and the management of budgets and income for the HR transactional and traded services.
If you think HR and local government may be a bit old school, think again. Innovation is at the heart of everything we do, and as a service we work closely with our Digital Transformation team who are currently working on programmes of activity which include Process Automation and AI, Chatbots and Data Warehousing.
What is the job role?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Employee Benefits & Finance Manager. The new role is essential to lead and manage our existing team in both the development and implementation of our range of employee benefits, the financial reconciliation of payrolls and the management of budgets and income for traded payroll and recruitment services.
The key activities in relation to employee benefits involve managing the marketing of existing benefits, identifying and implementing new packages, and liaising with employees, suppliers and our traded services customers as well as statutory bodies such as HMRC. On the finance side you’ll be managing the financial reconciliation of approx 90 payrolls, managing significant budgets and projected income streams of over £1m per annum.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with excellent financial skills and experience in budget reconciliation, management and control.
Ideally you will have knowledge of employee benefits packages.
You must be an expert in the use of Microsoft Excel to be able to work with large data sets and undertake financial analysis, reconciliation and forecasting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for working with the range of people within the role and for the promotion of the employee benefits packages.
You need to be a good organiser and a team player to manage the team and deliver a wide range of tasks on time. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is key.
