About the team we are recruiting to
The role of the Early Years’ Service is to:
- Lead and facilitate strategic development for Early Years across the City, working with a range of partners
- Raise educational standards and quality in private, voluntary and independent (PVI) childcare provision and Schools, for children aged birth to 5 years
- Provide market management to secure sufficient registered childcare and education places
- Secure and fund early years provision which is free of charge to parents
- Provide advice and guidance to extended childcare provision for children beyond the age of 5 years.
- To provide childcare related advice to parents and carers.
Early years officers liaise with PVI providers, schools, parents/carers and other external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for young children.
What is the job role?
We are seeking to appoint motivated and passionate early years practitioners to join our successful team within the Early Years’ Service.
Please note that there are 2 posts available both required to work Monday – Friday:
Post 1 - 37 hours per week (full-time)
Post 2: - 35 hours per week (pro-rated salary £27,847 - £33,496 pa )

The purpose of the roles are:
- To be responsible for working in partnership with Private, Voluntary, Independent (PVI) providers, maintained nursery schools and classes, childminders and out of school provision, offering targeted support in relation to early education entitlement places, supporting providers to run a successful childcare business and ensuring statutory compliance:

The successful candidates will work with existing and potential childcare providers to help to facilitate the delivery of sufficient sustainable, high-quality childcare, focusing on places in areas where there are gaps, to meet the demand for 2, 3 and 4-year-old places, including the extended entitlement.
These roles involves providing support in relation to funding-related queries, issues or concerns and ensuring that funding has been claimed in accordance with funding conditions.
To support the Early Years’ Service to meet the Local Authorities statutory duties regarding funding entitlements and sufficiency- in particular for Coventry’s most vulnerable children. The postholders will work in Early Years settings and schools across the city. They will work alongside senior officers within the Early Years’ Service, supporting the delivery of the Local Authorities statutory duty for early years
These posts are exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidates will be open-minded, flexible and excited about the development of new ideas and initiatives. They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to provide challenges in a way that facilitates change, whilst sustaining positive relationships and engagement. The posts would suit a senior early year’s practitioner, teacher or current adviser who has extensive leadership experience and has worked beyond their own organisation in providing support, advice and training.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and experiences related to the job description and person specification.
