About the team we are recruiting to

Sitting within the Facilities Management department, Coventry City Council's Energy Management Team is fast becoming one of the critical teams within the council providing essential support services across all service sectors as the City embarks on a Green Recovery and builds towards a Net Zero future. The team are responsible for advising on and managing utility related matters, supporting the delivery of wide-ranging city improvement projects and developing and delivering a growing programme of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

The team’s remit is varied and has grown in recent years to include:

The team’s project budgets historically ranged up to £200k, however, the increased focus on the impact of climate change has seen significant widening of the scope and scale of projects being developed.

With the City growing and modernising, the call for climate change action louder than ever and the unprecedented opportunities to refocus towards a Green Recovery, Coventry is embarking on an exciting journey and we need the right team to help steer the course and tackle the challenges that lie ahead.

What is the job role?

This is an exciting time to join Coventry City Council and we are looking for an experienced ERDF Energy Project Manager.

Following the successful award of ERDF Grant Funding, we need the right person to join our team to manage and deliver the team’s first >£1m energy project for Coventry City Council. This project involves the retrofit of up to 1MWp of Solar PV installations across the City’s public buildings. The successful person will have responsibility and autonomy to deliver and manage all aspects of the ERDF project to completion.

Whilst primary focus of the role will be in the successful delivery of the ERDF project, there will be significant opportunity for the right candidate to play a crucial role in the development of further energy projects either directly for the Council or in partnership with our key stakeholders across the region.

Ranking as the 8th best city to live and work, with high profile events such as being the UK City of Culture 2021 and a host city for the Commonwealth Games 2022, Coventry is also investing in an innovative and sustainable future. Whether it is helping businesses evolve through ERDF funded grant schemes, working with partners in major Innovate UK projects or supporting our universities with their world-leading research, Coventry City Council is helping bring about a bright future for the West Midlands. There is no better time to join us and play your part.

Coventry is a great centrally located city and our new flagship head office is based one minutes walk from Coventry Rail Station which has direct links to and from Birmingham, Nuneaton, Leamington, Rugby and London Euston stations.  The council has fully embraced the new ways of working with agile and flexible work policies to help our staff to continue deliver our services safely in these challenging times.

We have high expectations and aspire to achieve. If you are proactive and have the skills, experience and tenacity to succeed, this will be the role for you.

Who are we looking for?

In addition to your general project management experience, you will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Your ability to work independently in a demanding service environment
  • Demonstrable budget management experience, including forecast and control
  • Significant knowledge of the technical requirements involved in large energy projects (particularly Solar PV)
