About the team we are recruiting to
Domestic waste is a busy operational department that provides essential services to the residents of Coventry. We conduct over 210,000 collections a week on an alternate weekly collection system. In order to do this, we have over thirty crews who between them conduct domestic waste, recycling and garden waste collections each week tipping at various locations. Drivers are allocated loaders who are trained in use of the waste containers and how to ensure they maintain a safe working environment. Our drivers play a crucial role that utilises not only their driving skills, navigating busy residential areas, the city centre and major routes in and out of Coventry itself, but being one of the safety measures for ensuring our loaders safety.
A key factor for us, is that whilst being essential we still offer a customer focused service. Care and awareness of how our collections impact our residents, minimising disruption and keeping a professional caring attitude is a must.
What is the job role?
Under the general direction of the Supervisory Team, to deliver a high quality, safe and responsive, customer focused waste service.
To undertake either alone or as part of a team, duties connected with the collection and disposal of both household and commercial refuse and recycling from a variety of locations utilising a full range of refuse containers.
To drive and be responsible for any allocated vehicle and be the holder of a valid and current licence and CPC for the class of vehicle specified.
Who are we looking for?
You must have the correct HGV license and valid CPC card and you will be subject to a HGV driving assessment as part of the interview process. The role will involve driving HGV Vehicles including operation, maintenance, servicing and cleaning.
You will have knowledge of:
• Relevant road transport legislation.
• Understanding of the relevant service delivery activities.
• Understanding of the principles of customer care and client focussed service delivery.
• Knowledge and understanding of operational Health and Safety and the reason for its implementation.
• Able to drive HGV (Class 2) vehicles.
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
• Able to deal with the general public and customers in a polite and courteous manner.
• Physically fit and able to access large vehicles, walk long distances intermittently, and manoeuvre a full range of refuse containers in all weather conditions.
• Ability to meet daily targets within set timescales.
