Digital Marketing Apprentice - Destination Services

About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry City Council is the 9th biggest city in England and has ambitious plans to grow its economy, reputation and quality of life, including by the delivery of the title UK City of Culture in 2021.

The Council’s Business Investment and Culture service has a remit for economic development, inward investment, sustainability, culture, sport, tourism and events.  The team we are recruiting to is responsible for a range of functions, including: 

  • Delivery of festivals and major events
  • Promotion of leisure and business tourism
  • Operation of the convention bureau; and 
  • Management of the fourteenth century St Mary’s Guildhall.  

It is a lively group of largely specialist officers with responsibility for strategy, funding and project delivery across its sections.  It has recently expanded significantly, taking on new staff to develop and deliver activities stimulated by the title of UK City of Culture in 2021 and being a host of the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

What is the job role?

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with an aptitude for social media and on-line communications. The Destination Team are responsible for promoting Coventry and its tourism assets for leisure and business visitors.

This is an exciting time as we prepare to become the UK City of Culture in 2021, in addition we will be a host city during the Commonwealth Games 2022. We anticipate 2.5 million additional visitors coming to Coventry in 2021 alone, it vital we can engage with our digital audiences so they are aware of the fantastic experiences Coventry can offer them during their visit.

You’ll need to have good awareness of social media platforms and the ability to write creative, engaging content for our digital platforms.

In your role you will:

  • Keep social media accounts and web platforms updated.
  • Reply to comments, questions via social media.
  • Write campaigns and key information posts for appropriate audiences, researching the audience & content.
  • Create marketing materials, visuals for social media posts, schedule posts.
  • Develop campaigns aimed at young people.
  • Track analytics on social media & website report on findings.
  • Admin/IT duties as required. 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate commitment, energy and drive to provide digital and social media communications to promote and support the business, leisure, events and extended stay markets, in order to drive an increase in visitor footfall and spend, stimulate economic growth, and raise Coventry’s profile as a destination of distinction for day visits, leisure breaks, business events and culture.
