Coventry City Council’s Legal and Procurement Services are part of the public sector providing in-house legal support and has custodial responsibility for public spending to Coventry City Council.
The Legal Services team offers a professional comprehensive, tailor-made service to address legal issues of every description. The team is highly motivated, eager to develop and face challenges head on.
The Procurement and Commissioning team are the custodians for purchasing within the Council. They are responsible for making sure that the Council spends public money in line with its wider community strategy around the economy, society and the environment.
What is the job role?
We are looking for a skilled legal professional to support the People Team Leader in delivering a proactive, compassionate and effective legal service. You will manage and supervise casework, ensuring accuracy and timely completion, including statutory and court deadlines.
You will provide clear, strategic legal advice to client departments and to the wider Council to help protect its legal and financial interests.
You will also support Team Leaders in advising on improvements to practice and procedure across the organisation to reduce legal risk.
Who are we looking for?
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (with advocacy and litigation practice rights) with strong experience in at least one of the team’s specialist areas.
You will bring excellent drafting, negotiation and advisory skills, confidence with IT and case management systems, and a positive, solutions‑focused approach.
You will work well in a multi‑skilled team, support the development of junior staff and apprentices, and build strong relationships with Members, client departments and external partners.
